GFC On the Road has launched a new feature: sharing the voices of our grantee partners and extending grassroots knowledge globally through guest blogging. Himpunan Psikologi Indonesia, a professional association for psychologists, graduate students, and doctors, works to enhance and encourage the psychological sciences in Indonesia by empowering local people to participate in rebuilding their lives. GFC’s grant supports the organization’s environmental education and awareness training for children, which helps them to prevent or lessen the impact of natural disasters in their communities. Demak, a focus site for the organization’s efforts in Central Java, is experiencing a rapidly disappearing coastline that is causing the displacement of families, children, and schools.

Demak, Indonesia — March 10 and 11 were the days of our Earth Day celebration. On the first day, an environmentally themed children’s movie was screened at nighttime. Before the movie screening, a pantomime group performed for the children.
